Counseling - FAQ

Why is counseling important after loss or trauma?

People who suffer loss or trauma often find their emotions and relationships change in ways that make life feel even worse.  These changes may be normal responses, but dealing with them can be overwhelming.  A professional counselor can help you understand your responses from a fresh, more hopeful perspective.

What kind of results can I expect from counseling?

Everyone responds to counseling differently.  I will help you determine where you are now and where you would like to be.  The positive psychology approach I prefer allows you to focus on moving toward a brighter future.  I will guide you in facing your negative experiences with courage, understanding them more clearly, and building a better tomorrow.

How do I know if counseling is for me?

People can get better without counseling.  But if you have tried talking to friends or reading books and have not found the help you want, professional counseling can help you determine the steps you need to take next.

How long do counseling sessions last?

Each session lasts about fifty minutes, and we will discuss the number of sessions you might expect.  I will accommodate preferences for a brief, solution-focused approach whenever appropriate.

What does counseling cost?

My standard fee is $100 per hour.  I am a Blue Cross Par Plan provider and am in network with Cigna and Aetna.  I will file these claims for you, or assist you in filing with other insurers.
